Serious mental illness (SMI) symptoms and some behavioral expressions of dementia can often be very difficult to untangle when working with middle aged and older adults. This presentation provides an overview of diagnoses and related symptoms falling within these two categories as a backdrop for a discussion of risk factors, differential diagnoses, and clinical care for other adults who may have a SMI, dementia, or both.
