Summary:
Mental health providers who work with older adults must navigate a complex landscape of ethical principles, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As older adults often present with multifaceted medical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs, clinicians must be equipped to recognize how ethical expectations manifest across diverse settings. Working with this population also requires an understanding of situations that are uniquely prevalent in later life. This dynamic and interactive panel brings together leading ethics experts from psychology, psychiatry, social work, and counseling to discuss case-based examples illustrating how each discipline interprets and applies ethical standards. Over two sessions, the panel will explore how differing professional perspectives can complement one another, illuminate potential areas of conflict, and ultimately strengthen ethical decision-making in the provision of mental health care for older adults.
