This workshop  provides information and shares practices with the behavioral health crisis workforce. The goal is to improve understanding of the unique needs of aging adults and the care they receive during a behavioral health crisis. The aging population is expanding, and it’s become increasingly important to address the specific needs of older adults when they face behavioral health crises.

The workshop will also provide information on suicide risk and social isolation in older adulthood, and highlight state level innovations pertaining to older adults in the crisis continuum of care, specifically how state-level aging service providers, such as Area Agencies on Aging, can build the capacity of 988 call centers, Mobile Crisis Response Teams (MCRT), and others to better address the needs of the older adult population.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define trends and risk factors associated with suicide and social isolation in older adulthood.
  • Review examples of specialized Crisis Services and cross-agency collaborations for older adults across Pennsylvania that can improve care of older adults experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Apply best practices to develop sustainable cross-agency partnerships in the crisis service system.
